Juvenile Prosecution

Procedure

The Itasca County Attorney prosecutes all cases involving juvenile offenders. These can range from curfew violations to serious felony criminal behavior.

For serious offenses, the County Attorney may request that the Court certify a juvenile as an adult. Upon conviction, the juvenile could then receive all potential adult sanctions, including a prison sentence.

Diversion

The County Attorney also administers a diversion program which allows juvenile offenders to receive consequences for minor criminal offenses without going to court. This program emphasizes restorative justice and is intended to hold juveniles accountable and also reduce the number of repeat offenses.
